Today, we were so inspired by the weather that we figured we'd do our best to encourage you to get out of town. So far, we've featured a Woodstock cabin rental perfect for a group of friends, and a daytrip of rock climbing and beer tasting for adventurous types. While both trips sound awesome, we're personally most tempted by the one we're about to share, featuring our favorite local, off-season destination: Montauk. For us, there's nothing like the sand and sea for the perfect pre-winter jaunt. And while all our featured trips are accessible for New Yorkers, getting out to the very East End of Long Island couldn't be more of a breeze - the Jitney, LIRR or a 3-hour (or less) drive are all options.
In fact, if you're interested in going sans automobile, we've found plenty of available rooms at the Born Free Motel. This ideally located budget property is steps away from the Montauk's central shopping district, and also just a few blocks from the beach. Meaning you can head out here and use bicycles, cabs and your own two feet to get around, no problem. Rooms also start at just $95/night - and if you can call in sick on Monday, you're in luck. We found a deal with the motel that's pretty sweet: stay 2 nights, get the 3rd free, even over weekends.
Not so sure about heading to Montauk in the offseason? We've included a To-Do list for you that highlights our favorite year-round activities in the area below.
Should we have missed anything, make sure you let us know in the comments section. Happy travels.

To Do
To make the most of your Montauk getaway, take a look below for some ideas on what to do in the area:
- Take a Hike - Enjoy the outdoors with an easy hike through some beautiful dunes. Most trails lead you right to the beach; on the way you'll pass old WWII Bunkers. To get to Shadmoor State Park drive east on Route 27; about a 1/2 mile out of town you'll see the sign for parking on your right.
- Go Fishing - Grab a few beers and take a four-hour fishing trip. Seriously, it's fun. Viking Fleet has trips that leave every Saturday or Sunday, morning or afternoon, perfect for the amateur. Better yet, try night fishing - it's a bit more intense (you'll leave the dock at 7pm and return at 1am) but we can't imagine a more unique experience for a city slicker! Trips start at $45 (rent a rod for $5). A bargain if you consider that you just might catch dinner...
- To the Lighthouse - Take a trip to our nation's oldest lighthouse and watch the sunrise. On your way back, stop by the bakery in town for coffee and fresh donuts. Caution: watch out for deers - there are plenty on Montauk's roads!
- Hit a Bucket - Go to the driving range at Montauk Downs State Park championship golf course and try your hand at the favored sport of the leisure-class.
- Go Ride a Horse - Not an equestrienne? Never fear - the ranch hands deal with all kinds at the country's oldest working cattle ranch. Take a horse down to the beach for a sunset ride.
- Or Try Two Wheels - Trail maps, tips and more available from this friendly local bike shop.
- Take a Seaside Cure - Head to Gurney's Inn for use of their internationally-acclaimed spa on the beach. Treatments are on the expensive-side but use of their facilities, which include a salt water pool, steam room, sauna and roman bath only cost $30/day.
